    Building a smarter dog.?

    293
I've been reading a lot about intelligence (both human and animal) recently (yay insomnia) and have come across some really interesting articles. Lots of stuff about how certain nutritional supplements increases brain function. How changing the use of you dominant hand can increase overall intelligence. That puzzles & memory games improve cognitive ability and such. Then I got to thinking about my pups, and dogs in general. I just don't think their brains are being worked! My pups are all adults now, they're simply not being introduced to new commands every day. They get their quick 15-20 minute run through to keep them in check but they simply don't have to THINK. Seriously the only problem solving most dogs have to do is how to dig out of the yard or get to the moldy cheese mum put in the garbage can. I think some people might be hitting on this a bit with use of smart toys like the kong (I almost worship mine) but it's a simple puzzle which is easily solved.

Best Answer:  The only way to build a smarter dog, is to have smarter owners..... smarter owners, the smarter the dog.... really people try to train dogs to do all kinds of things without having a clue of what they are doing. to train a dog, is to work with that dog from being a puppy to the end of a dogs life. on and off again training is not the answer, most people wait and let the dogs sit around, then bam at adulthood, they think their dogs are boring and they wonder why. oh, my dogs cant do anything, they don't listen, this is why, not beginning training at a young age is just asking for unruly dogs, dogs that all they want to do is what they want to do, and the owners then think their dogs are stupid, when in fact it is the owners fault in the first place, for not beginning from the beginning of the pups young life...... in short, cant teach an old dog new tricks, but you can, but it takes time and patience and lots of love. most people will give up, say this dog cant learn and wants another dog, bye bye dog and they get a new one, and guess what, the next dog that is brought into the home will suffer the same fate... no training.... training young is the key word, young.... good luck and I hope you can get your dogs attention span to be able to stimulate their minds to want to learn for you. whatever you do, make it fun for the dogs

is it smarter to build logic around a belife or to build a belife after the logic?

    407
isen't that what religion does(build facts around a belife)? they don't ask, is there a god? to them it is there is god and this is why. tis why i think religious people are egotistical know it alls and scientific people are humble in wise.
    asked

Best Answer:  Scientists have, for centuries, had ideas that such-and-such a thing must be fact (observing nature, making mathematical calculations etc) but decades would go by before they were able to demonstrate the theory in a laboratory. You could argue that logic pointed to something unknown, or unknowable at that time, then they built up that belief with more logic. OR you could argue that they believed something was the case even though prevailing logic pointed in a different direction. At no point, however, was logic totally out of the equation. It's the same with belief in God. You could argue that by observing nature and books (ideas in words, instead of ideas in maths) religionists had ideas that such-and-such a thing must be believable and as they worked on living out that belief, they gained evidence that convinced them of the veracity of that belief. OR you could argue that they believed something about God was the case even though prevailing logic pointed in a different direction. At no point, however, was logic totally out of the equation. It's just that scientific logic has to work according to 'rules' that are different to the 'rules' of faith logic. Just because belief in a visible matter is easier to work out, logically, than belief in an invisible matter does not make the latter illogical. Lots of proud atheists have had to humble themselves and admit there is a God. Kind of knocks the ego for six, don't you think?

is it smart to wreck a house to build a new one?

    402
the place where i want to build a house there is no good land in a rich neighborhood so i want to wreck a pretty good house and build a new one i just feel bad wrecking it but money is not the problem
    asked

Best Answer:  This happens all of the time, and yes, it is smart. You get the great lot (what you really want), in the great neighborhood. The inexpensive old house goes and in goes the nice house. Just make sure you leave one wall in the same place. This way you are remodeling, not building new construction and will save yourself a ton of money on both permits and taxes. A word of warning, have your designer build the exterior to look period correct for the neighborhood. The neighbors will like that. I live in a neighborhood that was built in the 40's and people "remodel" all of the time. I stuck to period correct craftsmanship all of the way, even my ceilings are plaster. I have a neighbor whose house looks like a high end 40's home, but is a million $$ home build in 2001. BUT, another neighbor built something that looks like one of those tacky Mc-Mansion sub-division homes. Everyone resents him for having this super ugly house in a beautiful neighborhood. so, don't do that.

what is a good book to build your vocabulary?

what is a good book to build your vocabulary/make you sound smart. for example, instead of saying unavoidable you would say inevitable. just a book that teaches you the higher classed words for simple everyday sayings/meaning.

Best Answer:  Do three things. Yes, look in a dictionary. Also, look in a thesaurus. Just for fun, try the word quiz in each Readers Digest. Ten less common words each time. Nice, easy bites. But actually, you need to read complex material. You will see words used in a variety of contexts. If you learn a word without a context, then you have a good chance of using it in the wrong context. But if you see it in context a couple of times, your mind derives the usage, or at least has a better chance of doing so. Good for you. Having a wide vocabulary is a powerful, enlightening thing. You start to make lots and lots of connections across words.

I want to build perl script that will count word frequency of each word in a file of .txt extension.?

    755
    following is what I built,where it will count the word freq of data.txt and output it to freq.txt. #! "c:\strawberry\perl\bin\perl.exe" use strict; my (%count,$i,$key,@keys,$token,@tokens); open(INFILE,"data.txt") or die ("cannot open input file"); while(<INFILE>){ @tokens = &tokenize($_); foreach $token (@tokens) { if ($token =~ /[a-zA-Z]/) { $count{$token} = $count{$token} ? $count{$token}+1 : 1; } } } close(INFILE); @keys = keys %count; @keys = sort {$count{$b} <=> $count{$a} } @keys; open(OUTFILE, ">freq.txt") or die("cannot open output file"); for ($i=0;$i<=$#keys;$i++){ print OUTFILE "$count{$keys[$i]} $keys[$i]\n"; } close (OUTFILE); exit(0);
    asked

Best Answer:  &tokenize($_) that is calling a subroutine that is not in the script. i can't know what the sub should do because it's not there. the sub will start something like this sub tokenize ---------------------- if ($token =~ /[a-zA-Z]/) without knowing what code is in the tokenize sub i would suggest taking a look at the above code. I don't know the slightest thing about the Arabic language other than kind of what it looks like on the net. Arabic has characters other than the English ones. Don't take that my last statement as being smart, i just cant think of another way to put it (i am trying to be clear and it's late at night ha). So if you feed something other than ABC..Z or abc...z into the line of code above it's not going to match. There is good news and not so good news. Perl has a regex operator that "may" fix you up without hardly any work. in perl (most any regex lang) [A-Za-z] will match upper and lower case english abc's. Since I do not know Arabic at all i don't know what to use to match Arabic words. If you do know how to make a regex with Arabic and Arabic is all you want to match then you could rebuild that way. In Perl this [\w] (word characters) is the same as [A-Za-z0-9\_] but the nice thing is it is my understanding that \w will match the equivalent in (a lot or all) other languages. I am not sure about Arabic though. Since I don't read or write Arabic I have never tried it before. I have used \w on Swedish and Spanish and was able to do what I needed to do. If it does not work with Arabic then you may have to use Unicode. That gets more complicated and I won't go into that now. wish i knew what sub tokenize code was but hope that helps. ever used active perl? i like it better than strawberry but it dont matter to this question. hope you get it working

    Building Japanese Vocabulary?

    479
What's the best way to build a Japanese vocabulary? I am already learning Kana, any resources would be nice. Would it be smart to use a list like http://www.123japanese.com/index.php?cmd=verbs and learn a few new words a day/week? ありがとう!
    asked
    1 answers
    648
Best Answer:  The best way to build up your Japanese vocabulary is by learning a certain amount of vocab each day. When I was learning Japanese I tried to learn at least 5 new words a day or about 20 new words a week. Make up some word cards with the new vocabulary on them and constantly flick through them to reinforce and review. Watching Japanese anime or any Japanese TV program is a good idea for improving your vocabulary. Keep a notebook and jot down any new words you hear. Then look them up and find out the meaning. Do You Think Your A Science Nerd? (in other words do you think your smarter that me?)?

    956
Some students investingated how acid of varying strenghts affects different building materials. They found out the acidity can be measured by dipping specially treated pH paper into a solution and comparing the color of the paper to a pH scale. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14. Distilled water is neutral with pH of 7.0. Solutions with a pH lower then 7 are acid. typical rainwater has pH of about 5.5. Distilled water can be made more acidic by adding drops of lemon juice. The students used white vinegar (pH 2.5), carbonated water (pH 3.0), and water-lemon juice solution (pH 4.5) to respresent acid rain of varying strengths. They tested their solutions on marble, granite, metal, clay bricks, and concrete. They soaked a sample of each material in each solution for three days. the students also tested a control solution. The control provides a comparsion to a "normal" situation. What couls the students have used for a control? how could they have made it?
    asked
    1 answers
    278
Best Answer:  If the goal is to determine the effect of liquids of varying pH values on the materials, then there can be no appropriate liquid control. If the goal is not of the liquid but of the pH then appropraitely one can use DI or WFI or RO water as a control which can then be pH related. If attack by the weathering is the goal, then an effective and appropriate control could be something like a steady stream of purified air, 5 9s Nitrogen or 5 9s Helium ( the air would be a better match to reality) that would simulate weathering in a neutral environment.
